Our Beliefs & History

For more than two centuries, First Baptist Church of Bath has stood as a community of faith — people joined together by a shared love for God and one another. Founded in the early 1800s, our church has been both a spiritual home and a historic landmark in the heart of downtown Bath. Our building, built in 1853, still rings with the city’s clock chimes as a steady reminder of God’s presence through every generation.

At First Baptist, we believe that the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is the inspired and living Word of God. His truth revealed to guide, teach, and equip us for every good work.

We believe that salvation and new life comes only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Our purpose is to grow together as disciples in fellowship, proclaiming God’s Word with truth and love, and living out His teachings through service, prayer, and compassion, both here in Bath and around the world. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we seek to walk together in Christian love, caring for one another in faith and fellowship, and supporting God’s Kingdom through our time, talents, and resources.

We are committed to worship, discipleship, and outreach, nurturing faith in our families, seeking the good of our neighbors, and sharing the hope of Christ with all people. We strive to live with kindness, humility, and forgiveness, always ready for reconciliation and always growing in grace.
